Codes and Conventions

Short films are used within the film industry as a way for an up and coming director to show case his style and talent. Short films have no codes and conventions this helps to create unique and creative works, which can some times be hard to understand. The main downside to there being no codes and conventions is that it means there are no rules or guidelines for directors to follow. One of the only codes which stand within the short film industry is that the film must be under 50 minutes in duration, for it to be classed as a short film. Short films can be any genre and can even contain multiple genres.

Usually short films operate on a small tight budget, although they might not have the same budget as a feature length film, they still can create a high quality outcome. Short films are now days a way for people to get there view and opinions across on a certain issue or subject. Young aspiring directors use short films as a calling card and feel that by the use of shorts they can convey there style and make a name for them self. Many short films work by the Moto of “less is more”.
